Things to See in Collioure

The Monuments

The numerous buildings and monuments, such as… The Royal Castle, built in the 13th century, fortified by Vauban, and serving at various times as the residence of the Counts of Roussillon, the Kings of Aragon and Majorca, a fortress, and a prison. The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges, an emblem of the small maritime town, housing treasures of Baroque art. The Saint-Vincent Chapel, the pier, and the lighthouse, the windmill on the other side of the village, or Fort Saint-Elme on the heights, offering panoramic walks with views over the town.

The port

Once bustling with anchovy fishermen, the port remains lively today, still home to a few typical Catalan boats with vibrant colors, as well as passenger vessels, pleasure boats, and military ships. The many terraces of bars and restaurants offer breathtaking views of the Mediterranean at any time of day…

Beaches and Coves

The central beaches are lined with pebbles and are popular from early in the day. The beaches of L’Ouille and Les Batteries, a bit further away, offer an idyllic setting.

The Village Center

The historic heart of the village features colorful facades, once painted with leftover paint from Catalan boats. Here, you’ll find lively markets, numerous restaurants, shops, and artisan boutiques offering local specialties like anchovies and AOC Collioure wines. Explore artists' galleries, follow the Fauvism trail, and visit the Museum of Modern Art, which highlights the admiration many artists have had for Collioure.
